A Day of Rainbows
When: 18th November 2017, 10am to 4.30pm
Where: Tate Britain, Millbank, London
What: A Day of Rainbows
This is the second Royal Meteorological Society Saturday meeting organised by the WAM Special Interest Group in collaboration with Aspire, the Tate's research programme on John Constable's seminal work 'Salisbury from the Meadows".
Our programme will feature an exciting list of speakers representing many different strands of research into this most striking and symbolic of atmospheric phenomena, the rainbow.
Our first confirmed speaker is Prof John Thornes, whose seminal research on Constable's use of meteorological understanding in his paintings is uncovering extraordinary evidence of the great painter's interest in the science of the atmosphere, and how he used his knowledge for expressive purposes. His talk will focus on his latest findings regarding the controversial rainbow Constable famously added to 'Salisbury from the Meadows'. Prepare to be moved!
